ABOUT KRUGER NATIONAL PARK

Kruger National Park conjures up a romantic view of African history, of a landscape inhabited from the earliest times by Bushmen, iron age villages, slave traders, ivory poachers and gold prospectors, of vast game migrating across the lowveld with the seasons. The reality of modern Kruger as a conservation area is equally fascinating. It is home to 500 bird species, 114 reptile, 49 fish, 33 amphibian, 146 mammal and over 23,000 plant species. The Kruger National Park is 60 kilometres wide and more than 350 kilometres long, covering an area larger than Wales!
The best times for game viewing in Kruger National Park is just after dawn and just before dusk as the animals tend to lie up during the heat of the day.
Kruger Park's climate changes through the year with each season bringing its own advantages. The Kruger National Park looks its best after the summer rains when the new shoots and lush vegetation provide a surplus of food for the grazers, these animals get healthier on their new diet and give birth to their young. Visitors to Kruger can see playful foals and calves of Zebra and Elephant. The downside is that the thick foliage and tall grasses do make it harder to spot animals and day time temperatures can rise to a sweltering 40ºC, afternoon rains are also common. The winter months are good for game viewing in Kruger Park as the dry weather forces the animals to congregate around the waterholes, visitors to Kruger will see more animals as there is less foliage, but they tend not to be in the best condition. The dry leafless panorama of apparently dead woodland stretching as far as the eye can see is an awesome sight. The day time temperatures in Kruger Park are more comfortable at around 30ºC, but it can be surprisingly cold at night as it descends to 0ºC or lower.

There are many safaris to the Kruger National Park to choose from, all the Kruger safaris include a qualified guide, return transport from Jo'burg, game drives, accommodation (camping or chalet), Kruger Park entrance fees and meals. Some of the safaris also include a night game drive and/or game walk or an overnight stay in a tribal village - this will be stated in the individual itineraries. The Kruger Safaris depart on various days of the week. All safaris are arranged in order of day or departure, ie. Monday departures, Tuesday departures etc.
